Sarina Wiegman's Bold Promise Ahead of England's Euro 2025 Clash: 'We'll Be Ready'
Wiegman: England will be ready for Sweden Euro clash

England boss Sarina Wiegman has made a confident declaration ahead of the Lionesses' pivotal Euro 2025 qualifier against Sweden, promising her side will be "ready" despite recent challenges.

The Dutch tactician acknowledged the difficulties of rotating her squad during Friday's 2-1 victory over the Republic of Ireland, which saw key players rested ahead of Tuesday's crucial showdown in Stockholm.

Injury Concerns and Squad Rotation

Wiegman admitted to facing selection headaches after midfielder Grace Clinton suffered a concussion in Dublin, while captain Leah Williamson and star forward Lauren James were among those left out of the starting lineup.

"We have to assess everyone," Wiegman stated. "Some players needed rest after a demanding season, but we'll field our strongest possible team against Sweden."

Sweden Test Looms Large

The match against the world's fifth-ranked side represents England's toughest test in Group A3 as they aim to secure qualification for next summer's tournament in Switzerland.

Wiegman emphasized: "Sweden are always difficult opponents. They're physical, well-organized and have tremendous experience. But we've prepared thoroughly and will adapt our approach accordingly."

Positive Momentum Building

Friday's win extended England's unbeaten run in competitive matches to 23 games, dating back to April 2022. Wiegman believes this consistency proves her squad's resilience.

"The players have shown tremendous character throughout this qualifying campaign," she said. "We've had to manage different challenges, but the team spirit remains exceptional."

With Sweden having drawn against France in their opener, Tuesday's match could prove decisive in the race for automatic qualification.
