Why Man Utd vs Roma isn't on TNT Sports

Manchester United host Roma in the Champions League at Old Trafford tonight, but the match will not be broadcast live in the UK on TNT Sports. Under the current Champions League rights agreement, Amazon Prime Video has the first pick of one Tuesday night fixture to show exclusively on its platform up until the semi-finals, and this week it has chosen United vs Roma.

The game kicks off at 8pm GMT, with Amazon's coverage beginning at 6:30pm, hosted by Gabby Logan. Punditry comes from former United players Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes and Ashley Young, with Alan Shearer on co-commentary alongside Jon Champion.

Pressure mounts on Michael Carrick

The fixture is a significant one for interim manager Michael Carrick, who is under severe pressure to save his job. Saturday's 2-0 loss at Chelsea means United have lost three matches in a row, four out of five, and are now winless in nine consecutive games across all competitions, their worst such run since the 1988/89 season.

United have not won since September 10, when their last home Champions League fixture saw them beat Azerbaijani debutants Sabah FK 4-0. Since then, they have been beaten by Atletico Madrid and Como, with senior players Lisandro Martinez and then captain Bruno Fernandes giving explosive post-match interviews after those losses.

Roma in strong form

Roma remain unbeaten in Serie A this season after 10 games, sitting third and four points off top spot after a 5-2 win over Udinese at the weekend. Despite extensive injury problems that have left them with a squad of only 17 outfield players in England, Gian Piero Gasperini's side have won four of their last five, including a 4-0 victory over Slovan Bratislava in their last European outing.

Carrick will be eager to avoid another defeat, with Roma's visit and a Premier League game against Aston Villa on Sunday preceding an expected review of his position by the club hierarchy during the November international break.

Future TV rights

Amazon's current arrangement will continue from 2027-2031 under the next Champions League TV rights deal, which will see the bulk of matches move to US streaming giants Paramount in an agreement struck in 2025 worth well over £1 billion. Highlights will remain on the BBC, while Sky Sports has bought the rights to show all Europa League and Conference League games in the UK from next season.
