Wharton Scores First Palace Goal Brentford Grab Late Draw

Adam Wharton finally scored his first goal for Crystal Palace after 93 appearances, but Brentford snatched a 2-2 draw with a late equaliser from Dango Ouattara at the Gtech Stadium.

Ismaila Sarr gave Palace an early lead from the penalty spot after being brought down by goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher. Sarr converted for his eighth Premier League goal of the season.

Brentford equalised in fortunate fashion five minutes before half-time when a cross from Yehor Yarmoliuk hit Ouattara in the face and deflected past Dean Henderson.

Wharton put Palace back in front seven minutes after the break, firing a low shot from the edge of the box into the net. The 22-year-old celebrated with a double somersault in front of the away fans.

However, Ouattara struck again with two minutes remaining, turning in a flick-on from Sepp Van Den Berg to secure a point for the Bees and keep their European hopes alive.

Palace, who have a Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano in 10 days, remain in contention for a European place themselves.
