West Ham sack Nuno Espirito Santo in Championship

West Ham United have dismissed manager Nuno Espirito Santo as the club seeks an immediate return to the Premier League. The Hammers were relegated to the Championship last season and had initially kept Espirito Santo in charge, but a poor start to the new campaign has prompted the board to act.

Club Statement Confirms Departure

In an official statement, West Ham confirmed that Espirito Santo had left his position with immediate effect. The club said: "West Ham United can confirm that men’s first-team Head Coach Nuno Espírito Santo has left his position with immediate effect."

"Following a thorough review of the start to the EFL Championship season, the Board of Directors believe that a change is necessary at this time in order to ensure that the Club’s objectives and expectations remain on track."

Backroom Staff Also Leave

Assistant Head Coach Rui Pedro Silva and Goalkeeper Coach Rui Barbosa have also departed the club. West Ham thanked all three for their "hard work and commitment" and wished them well for the future.

The process of recruiting a new head coach is already underway.

Temporary Charge and Next Fixture

Mark Noble, Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville will take temporary charge of squad preparations ahead of tomorrow evening’s EFL Championship fixture at Cardiff City. The club said it will make no further comment until the appointment of the new head coach is confirmed.
