West Ham United have confirmed the immediate sacking of manager Nuno Espirito Santo. The Championship outfit have slipped to eighth place in the table following consecutive home defeats against Southampton and West Brom.
Nuno's final fixture in charge ended in a 3-1 loss to West Brom. The Hammers have won just six of their 13 league fixtures this season, having been widely tipped to secure an immediate return to the Premier League following their relegation to the second tier last season.
Club confirms departure
The Portuguese coach took charge at the club in September 2025 following the dismissal of Graham Potter, but was unable to preserve West Ham's top-flight status.
In an official statement, West Ham said: "West Ham United can confirm that men's first-team Head Coach Nuno Espírito Santo has left his position with immediate effect."
The statement continued: "Following a thorough review of the start to the EFL Championship season, the Board of Directors believe that a change is necessary at this time in order to ensure that the Club's objectives and expectations remain on track."
Assistant Head Coach Rui Pedro Silva and Goalkeeper Coach Rui Barbosa have also departed. The club thanked all three for their "hard work and commitment" during their time at the club.
Successor search underway
West Ham confirmed that the process of recruiting a new Head Coach is already underway. Mark Noble, Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville will take interim responsibility for squad preparations ahead of tomorrow evening's EFL Championship clash at Cardiff City.
The club declined to comment further until the incoming Head Coach's appointment is officially confirmed.
