Warnock: Gerrard's England Level Surpassed Liverpool Training

Stephen Warnock has revealed that Steven Gerrard's performances for England were on a different level compared to his training at Liverpool. The former Reds defender, who played alongside Gerrard at Anfield, said the midfielder raised his game significantly when representing his country.

Speaking on the In The Mixer podcast, Warnock recalled his first England call-up and a car journey with Gerrard and Jamie Carragher. 'I got in a car with Carra and he said, "Watch Stevie here." I was like, "What?" And he said, "He goes up another like 10%." I was like, "You can't go up 10%." And then he got to England and it was like he was competing against [Frank] Lampard... and it was like, "I'll show you 100%.'' It was phenomenal to watch,' Warnock said.

Warnock also recalled seeing Gerrard's talent from a young age, noting a match between Liverpool and Crewe where Gerrard dominated the highly-rated Kenny Lunt. 'Stevie just ran over the top of him. He was just unbelievable in the game. And it was like he just had levels to go up,' Warnock added.

Gerrard is widely regarded as one of the finest midfielders of his generation, winning the Champions League, FA Cup, and League Cup with Liverpool, though he never won the Premier League title or silverware with England.
