The Metropolitan Police have urged England fans not to gather in large numbers for the Euro 2020 final, warning that London remains in the grip of a public health crisis. Large crowds are expected to amass in the capital on Sunday as the Three Lions face Italy at Wembley.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor said: 'London still remains in a public health crisis. There are Government guidelines in place and we ask people to follow these and remain socially distanced.' He added that those without tickets should not travel to London as they risk missing the match.
The Met has prepared by visiting venues to ensure social distancing is maintained, and a 'great' number of officers will be deployed across different locations. The force made 23 arrests on Wednesday following England's semi-final victory over Denmark, for offences including common assault and public order violations.
Mr Taylor also highlighted a 'particular focus' on tackling domestic abuse and noted that the terror threat remains 'substantial', meaning an attack is likely. He urged fans to behave responsibly and consider the safety of others.
