Luka Vuskovic's market value has reportedly increased significantly despite the young defender not yet making a single appearance for Tottenham Hotspur. The 19-year-old is currently on loan at German side Hamburger SV, having joined the Bundesliga club last summer after officially registering as a Spurs player.
Background and Transfer Details
Tottenham secured a deal to bring Vuskovic to the club back in 2023 when he was just 16 and playing for Hajduk Split. The centre-back eventually made the move to north London last summer. Upon completing the transfer, Vuskovic immediately joined Hamburger SV on loan to gain valuable first-team experience, and his transfer value has increased considerably as a result.
Market Value Surge
The CIES Football Observatory has calculated that Vuskovic's current market value stands between €42 million (£36.3 million) and €49 million (£42.3 million). In August last year, the same organisation reported his worth at approximately €37.8 million (£32.7 million), representing a potential jump of £9.6 million in just eight months—all without him featuring once for Tottenham.
Injury and Return
Vuskovic has been dealing with a knee contusion during his loan spell, spending three weeks on the treatment table. However, Hamburger SV manager Merlin Polzin recently provided an encouraging update, noting that the defender participated in a light recovery session. Polzin said, "First of all, this is really good: sunshine, Luka is here. Wonderful. It gives me a good feeling that the pain has subsided." Vuskovic marked his comeback as a late substitute in Hamburg's 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, his 28th appearance across all competitions this season.
Future Prospects
Vuskovic is expected to return to Tottenham this summer, but his future remains uncertain given the club's precarious league position. Tottenham currently sit 18th in the Premier League, occupying the final relegation spot with four games remaining. They are two points behind West Ham and face Aston Villa on Sunday as they fight to avoid the drop. Vuskovic also has his sights set on representing Croatia at this summer's World Cup, having already earned four caps for his nation.
