However, an immediate problem would greet him in north London. The number seven shirt, which Vinicius wears for both Real Madrid and Brazil, is already taken at Arsenal by Bukayo Saka. There is little chance of Saka giving it up, meaning the 26-year-old would have to choose a different number.
Agreement in principle
That is unlikely to bother Arsenal fans if the transfer goes through. According to Hand of Arsenal, the 2025/26 Premier League champions have secured an agreement in principle over personal terms with Vinicius. It is a boost for the Gunners, not least because of the rumours surrounding the wage gap between Vinicius and Real Madrid.
The Athletic report that a move to Arsenal appeals to Vinicius should an agreement with Real Madrid fall through. Mikel Arteta is also said to admire the forward and would love to add him to his squad.
Contract situation
All options remain open, including leaving Real Madrid as a free agent next summer. The situation has taken Real Madrid by surprise, as they did not expect negotiations to drag on for this long. Vinicius last extended his contract in 2022, purposefully opting for a shorter deal to negotiate again on more favourable terms sooner. Now that the saga has dragged on, a departure from the Bernabeu is a genuine possibility.
