Liverpool were denied an equaliser against Nottingham Forest when Florian Wirtz's goal was disallowed after a VAR review at Anfield. The German playmaker thought he had levelled the match following Dan Ndoye's opening strike, but his celebrations were cut short by the officials.
Offside in the build-up
Jeremie Frimpong was judged to be offside in the build-up to the goal, ensuring Wirtz's effort was chalked off. The Dutch wingback appeared to fend off a number of opposition defenders before finding Wirtz, who completed a smart spin and finish into the bottom corner.
The Premier League Match Centre said: "VAR checked the referee’s call of goal – and determined that Frimpong was in an offside position and recommended that the goal was disallowed."
Commentator reaction
Ally McCoist, speaking on TNT Sports commentary, said: "When the ball came into Jeremie Frimpong, it looked close, he's just slightly offside. I knew there wasn't a lot in it but the bottom line was he was in an offside position."
