Ruud van Nistelrooy has heaped praise on Robin van Persie, stating that the Dutch striker could be the key to Manchester United reclaiming the Premier League title from Manchester City. Van Persie has made an impressive start to his United career, scoring 11 goals so far. Van Nistelrooy, who netted 95 goals in 137 league starts for United, said: 'I spoke to him a little while before and I congratulated him on his fantastic start... It's like he's been [at United] forever.'
United currently lead City by a point, with 32 league goals – seven more than their rivals. Van Persie has scored eight of those and also provides creativity. Van Nistelrooy added: 'If he can continue like this for the whole season I can see United going for another league win. He's everywhere – involved in the play and in the finishing.'
Wayne Rooney has identified West Ham striker Andy Carroll as a threat for Wednesday's match at Old Trafford. Rooney said: 'Andy Carroll is a handful... I am sure if you ask any defender, they find it difficult to play against someone like that who is good in the air and on the floor.'
Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed that Anderson will start against West Ham after an impressive substitute appearance against Queens Park Rangers. 'His performance was outstanding... he picks himself on Wednesday,' Ferguson said. Paul Scholes is suspended, while Antonio Valencia is a doubt with a hip problem.
