Van Dijk fury at penalty snub in Liverpool defeat

Virgil van Dijk expressed his anger in a heated post-match interview after Liverpool fell to a narrow defeat against Arsenal, insisting his side should have been awarded a penalty.

The Reds controlled much of the game but conceded early when Alisson Becker's misplaced pass allowed Kai Havertz to score the decisive goal. Liverpool pushed for an equaliser, with Florian Wirtz and Alexis Mac Allister both going close, while Alexander Isak appeared to be brought down inside the area.

Van Dijk questions VAR

Speaking to Sky Sports, Van Dijk said: "It was a clear penalty on Isak. It's a penalty, but it wasn't meant to be.

"How come VAR doesn't notice? Why does he have to complain with so many cameras? Everyone saw it. In the end it wasn't given, so congratulations to Arsenal."

The defeat leaves Liverpool without points from the match, as Arsenal held on to secure all three.
