Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Jonas Lossl has offered a heartwarming gesture to a Syrian refugee who was the victim of a brutal bullying attack. The 15-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was assaulted by a 16-year-old student at Almondbury Community School in West Yorkshire. The attack was filmed and went viral, sparking widespread outrage.
In the video, the victim is seen being dragged to the floor by his neck, with his attacker saying, "I'll drown you," while forcing water from a bottle into his mouth. The perpetrator has been interviewed by police and reported for summons for assault. The victim and his family are receiving support from authorities.
Following the incident, an online crowdfunding page raised £50,000 in donations within a day. Lossl responded to a post by BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey, offering to invite the boy and his family to a Huddersfield Town game as his guests. He wrote on social media: "I completely agree with @mrjakehumphrey. I'd like to show my love to Jamal by inviting him and his family to a @htafcdotcom game as my guest."
Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman described the assault as "absolutely shocking" and confirmed he has been supporting the family. West Yorkshire Police stated that the incident occurred on 25 October and has been thoroughly investigated. They advised against sharing the video online to avoid prejudicing future proceedings.
