Manchester City have re-signed James Trafford from Burnley for £27m, matching Newcastle's offer. The 22-year-old goalkeeper has signed a five-year deal at the Etihad.
Trafford began his career at City but never played for the first team, instead going on loan to Accrington, Bolton and Burnley before a permanent £14m move to Turf Moor. He will now compete with Ederson and Stefan Ortega for the number one spot, with Ederson a target for Galatasaray and Ortega attracting interest.
Newcastle had pursued Trafford for two seasons but City activated a matching rights clause in the sale to Burnley. The England international struggled in the Premier League under Vincent Kompany but helped Burnley win promotion from the Championship last season.
Meanwhile, Wrexham have made an ambitious approach for Christian Eriksen, whose agent confirmed interest. The 33-year-old is a free agent after leaving Manchester United. Agent Martin Schoots said Eriksen wants to play in a top-tier league in Western Europe. Wrexham, backed by Hollywood owners, have broken their transfer record twice this summer as they prepare for the Championship.
