Tottenham Hotspur are among six English clubs awaiting the Champions League knockout draw on Friday, which will outline their potential route to the final in Budapest. The north London side finished fourth in the league phase, winning five and losing just one of their eight fixtures.
Depending on the draw, Spurs may face either Atletico Madrid – who overcame Club Brugge in the play-offs – on the blue path, or the winner of the play-off tie between Galatasaray and Juventus on the silver pathway. A simulation by Express Sport suggests Galatasaray will be their round-of-16 opponents, having progressed 7-5 on aggregate after a 5-2 first-leg win and a 3-2 second-leg defeat to Juventus.
Should Tottenham advance, the simulation predicts a quarter-final against either Chelsea or Paris Saint-Germain, followed by a semi-final against Real Madrid, Manchester City, Arsenal or Atalanta. A meeting with Arsenal would set up a north London derby in the last four.
If Spurs reach the final, the simulation indicates they would likely face Bayern Munich, Barcelona or Liverpool. Tottenham will be clear underdogs in later rounds but will first aim to navigate the round of 16.
