Tottenham Hotspur remain bottom of the Premier League table after their sixth winless match of the season, a 1-1 draw away to Manchester United. Roberto De Zerbi's side produced a frustrating opening 45 minutes, but for different reasons than before the international break.
The visitors were much the better side in the first half but could not find a breakthrough. Dominic Solanke had a couple of opportunities come and go, while Conor Gallagher could not sort his feet out when slipped through on goal.
United grow into the game
United grew into the contest after the restart, with Bruno Fernandes starting to pull the strings in the middle of the park. The opener arrived just under 20 minutes from time, with Bryan Mbeumo afforded far too much time and space in the box.
Rodrigo Bentancur's moment of madness looked as if it had cost Spurs a route back into the match, only for a bizarre Solanke goal to level things up late on.
Player ratings
Antonin Kinsky - 6
Couldn't have done much about the Mbeumo opener. Otherwise solid enough.
Archie Gray - 6
Unfairly criticised at times, but dealt with the efforts of Matheus Cunha well while playing somewhat out of position at right back.
Marcos Senesi - 6
Gave as good as he got at the back and was positive with the ball at his feet.
Jan Paul van Hecke - 5
Didn't engage with Mbeumo nearly as quickly as he ought to have.
Destiny Udogie - 6
A huge miss to this Spurs team when he's struggling with injuries. Plenty of energy up and down the left flank and one of the better players for the away side.
Lucas Bergvall - 6
Did help break things up in the middle of the park, but that often involved the Swede fouling his opposite number.
Sandro Tonali - 4
Another week of questioning what he brings to this Tottenham team. Zero control or composure. Plays like a bull in a china shop. Picked up an assist, but it was more of a hit and hope cross.
Conor Gallagher - 6
Was heavily involved in the first half, for good and bad reasons. Fluffed a chance to score, but was stitching things together. Subbed off for James Maddison late on.
Substitutes and the late equaliser
Savio - 5
A constant threat to the United backline, but as is ever the case with the winger, his end product wasn't great. Another who stood off Mbeumo in the box.
Dominic Solanke - 4
A really poor showing from the striker. Had enough chances to go home with a hat-trick on another day, but didn't look like taking any of them. Had one job, but did it woefully.
Mohammed Kudus - 6
Started brightly, but faded as the match went on. Didn't really have a touch in the second half and was replaced with just over 20 minutes to play.
Rodrigo Bentancur - 1
A car crash of a cameo that sums up Tottenham's season. Offered nothing in or out of possession, and needlessly got himself sent off.
Omar Marmoush - 4
Brought on to change the game, but went missing.
James Maddison - 6
Kept looking to make something happen, even after Spurs went down to 10 men.
