Tottenham Manager Igor Tudor Brands Fulham Star a 'Cheat' and Faces FA Sanctions
Tottenham Hotspur boss Igor Tudor has put himself at risk of Football Association punishment after his fiery post-match comments following Spurs' 2-1 defeat away to Fulham on Sunday. The Croatian manager, who took charge of Tottenham just a fortnight ago, labelled Fulham striker Raul Jimenez a 'cheat' and criticised referee Thomas Bramall's performance, potentially violating FA rules.
Tudor's Losing Start and Controversial Remarks
Igor Tudor, 47, has endured a difficult beginning to his tenure at Tottenham, losing both of his opening games. This latest defeat leaves Spurs languishing in 16th place in the Premier League table, only four points above the relegation zone. The match at Craven Cottage saw Fulham take an early lead, with Harry Wilson scoring after just seven minutes, but Tudor was incensed by what he perceived as a foul in the build-up.
He argued that Raul Jimenez had unfairly pushed Tottenham centre-back Radu Dragusin, drawing parallels to a controversial incident in last weekend's North London derby where Spurs had a goal disallowed for a similar push. "Of course it's a foul, I think," Tudor stated. "Nine out of ten people will say it's a foul, I believe, because it's so obvious. Sometimes they don't understand it's enough, even small contact, if it gives you an advantage to score the goal, you need to cancel this."
Scathing Critique of Referee Thomas Bramall
Tudor did not stop at criticising Jimenez; he also launched a scathing attack on referee Thomas Bramall. "I didn't like the referee today, too much of a home team referee," he said. "I didn't feel well with him. All the decisions were on their side. He doesn't understand football, the feeling of what is wrong and what is right." These remarks could be deemed a breach of FA Rule E3, which covers improper conduct, insulting words, or bringing the game into disrepute.
The manager doubled down on his assessment of Wilson's goal, emphasising the significance of the decision. "This is ridiculous to not give the foul, because the consequence is too big. It's not a small foul in the middle of the pitch, it's a goal after," Tudor added. He further accused Jimenez of deliberate cheating, stating, "He cheated, the player, with pushing and they scored the goal. So, it's logic, it's cheating and there's the foul."
Potential Consequences and Upcoming Fixtures
The Football Association is likely to review Tudor's comments, which could result in fines or other disciplinary actions. This incident adds to Tottenham's woes as they struggle in the Premier League, with their next match against Crystal Palace on Thursday potentially seeing them drop to 17th place and just one point above the relegation zone. Tudor's outburst highlights the intense pressure and frustration at the club during this challenging period.
