Ivan Toney's Explosive Saudi Pro League Conspiracy Claims

Ivan Toney has unleashed a blistering, X-rated rant against Saudi Pro League officials, accusing them of conspiring to ensure Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr clinches the championship title. The former Brentford striker's fury erupted following Al-Ahli's damaging 1-1 draw against Al-Fayha on Wednesday night, a result that severely dented their title aspirations.

Title Race Twists and Controversial Decisions

The stalemate saw Al-Ahli squander a golden opportunity to close the gap on league leaders Al-Nassr to just two points. Instead, they remain in third place, trailing Ronaldo's side by four points, with Al-Nassr also holding a crucial game in hand. Toney had opened the scoring with his 27th league goal of the season, maintaining his remarkable record of a goal per game, but an equaliser and a series of contentious refereeing decisions left Al-Ahli frustrated.

The match was marred by three penalty appeals that were dismissed by the on-field referee and subsequently upheld by VAR. The incidents included one appeal for a push and two for alleged handballs, all of which were waved away, sparking Toney's post-match outburst.

Toney's Heated Post-Match Interview

In a fiery interview, Toney did not hold back, hinting at a broader conspiracy against his team. "The big talking point was the two penalties," he fumed. "It's clear as day. I don't know what more you want him to do? Pick the ball up with two hands, are you going to give a penalty then or not?"

He further revealed a bizarre exchange with the match official, stating, "And then we try to talk to the referee and he tries to tell us to focus on the AFC [Champions League]. How can the referee say this? We're talking about now and he says focus on the AFC. If you want me to go deeper, I can go deeper. It might get me into trouble but I'm a man that says it how it is."

Toney added, "Throughout the season it's a clear penalty, but now we get to crunch time, they change it, I don't know why." When pressed on who he believed was benefiting from these decisions, he pointedly replied, "We know who. Who are we chasing?" He concluded with a stark warning: "If decisions go our way we have a good chance, but if they continue like this it will be tough."

Social Media Escalation and Further Allegations

Not content with his verbal assault, Toney took to Instagram to amplify his grievances, sharing clips of the three disputed penalty incidents. "Two of these actions went to VAR and one didn’t. It’s actually crazy how you can miss things like this in crucial moments or choose to turn a blind eye," he wrote.

In a follow-up post, he elaborated, "And without saying too much that may get me in trouble, it’s clear what’s being influenced here!!! Also with the referee telling us to concentrate on a different competition whilst VAR is going on is beyond me."

Toney also claimed the referee admitted the first incident was a penalty in stoppage time, which he dismissed as unhelpful. "And to add with the referee agreeing that the first one was a penalty in the 90+ minute like that’s going to help. But listen I guess I’m probably the bad guy for speaking some truths and pointing out questionable decisions or s*** refereeing."

He signed off with a sarcastic jab, writing, "Next time if needed I can bring someone from my area that doesn’t have a clue about football to do a MUCH better job than some of these!!!!!"

Background and Broader Context

Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr from Manchester United in December 2022 but has yet to secure a Saudi Pro League title with the club. Intriguingly, both Al-Nassr and Toney's Al-Ahli are owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, which also controls second-placed Al-Hilal and sixth-placed Al-Ittihad, adding a layer of complexity to the allegations of bias.

The controversy has ignited a fierce debate about officiating standards and potential conflicts of interest in the league, with Toney's explosive comments threatening to overshadow the climax of the season. As the title race intensifies, all eyes will be on whether his claims prompt any official response or investigation from league authorities.
