Tommy Fury hopes bingeing on horror films has provided the blueprint for slaying The Beast. Fury, 27, will take on former World’s Strongest Man Eddie Hall tonight in a bizarre crossover boxing bout. The brother of heavyweight legend Tyson will have to overcome a near 100kg weight difference. Fury knows one blow from Hall's huge right hand could send him crashing to an embarrassing defeat.
But he reckons a combination of solitude and scary movies has primed him to tame the monster. New dad Fury packed up his posh caravan and left the family home to prepare for the challenge of Hall, 38. And he survived in the middle of a field with only zombies for company.
"You can get away from everything and just focus," he said. "I enjoy my own company and when I've got a fight coming up, I go into a different mindset. It's no longer about luxuries; my job for those eight weeks is to eat, sleep, train and then repeat. But it's been an amazing month for me because there have been a lot of horror films released, so that's kept me occupied."
"I was brought up on them and they're still all I watch. My mum's a massive horror fan herself so ever since I was young I was just sat in front of the TV watching them. That's never left me and nothing else grips me as much. I still have to watch them with the lights on and I still get scared when I go to bed after watching them."
Fury has carved out a very different career to that of his older brother who is flying in from Thailand in support. He made his debut in 2018 before a successful stint on Love Island sent his stock soaring. His biggest triumphs in the ring have come against social media rivals KSI and Jake Paul. He has only accepted tonight's fight because his dad John is too old at 61 to settle his own manufactured row with Hall.
Fury will use his ringwalk to announce the name of his son after partner Molly-Mae gave birth earlier this week. And he insists he can't wait to deal with the behemoth before turning his attention to his new arrival. "There is a dispute to be settled and that's what I'm going to do," he added. "It's been an amazing week, I've had a beautiful baby boy and now a main event in my hometown. My duties will start properly after the fight; I'll get the job done and then get back home to change some s***** nappies."
