Two Porsche drivers who filmed themselves driving at more than 100mph on Welsh roads in a Top Gear-style video have been given suspended prison sentences.
David Murray and Timur Khayrov, both 30, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and were sentenced at Caernarfon Crown Court. The pair had driven from Scotland to Wales to film footage for their YouTube channel, Vehicle Villains.
The court heard they filmed on the B4501 near Cerrigydrudion and the B4391 in Gwynedd, cutting corners and driving on the wrong side of the road. They were heading to a track day at Alton Park in Cheshire but arrived a day early and went to north Wales on 16 March.
Their footage was uploaded to YouTube and spotted by a Greater Manchester Police inspector, who reported it to North Wales Police. The video showed the men discussing having found "the greatest road in the world" and checking their tyres and brakes after high-speed driving.
In mitigation, the court heard Murray had done "the stupidest thing" of his life, while Khayrov, a pilot, was "extremely appalled" by his behaviour which was "extremely out of character". Judge Nicola Jones said the filming was an aggravating factor as it could encourage others to drive dangerously.
Both men received eight-month sentences suspended for 12 months, 18-month driving bans, extended driving tests and 200 hours of community service. They were also ordered to pay £689 each in costs and a victim surcharge.
