Tom Brady has hit back at claims he may reconsider his lucrative broadcasting deal with Fox Sports, branding the reports as 'fake news'. The seven-time Super Bowl winner, who retired from the NFL in February, has agreed a $375m (£297m) 10-year role as an NFL analyst for the network, starting in 2024.
A story from the New York Post suggested Brady was having second thoughts about the move, but he responded on Instagram to a post sharing the article, denying the speculation. The 46-year-old previously confirmed he would not begin his new role until after the current season to take time to decompress from his playing career.
Speaking to Colin Cowherd on Fox Sports in February, Brady said: 'Decompression's really important. You're on this really crazy treadmill, hamster wheel for a long time... For me, I want to be great at what I do — talking, even last week, with the people at Fox Sports, and the leadership there, allowing me to start my Fox opportunity in 2024, something that's great for me.'
Despite insisting he is retired 'for good', Brady fuelled comeback speculation when asked about a possible return with the Miami Dolphins. However, he quickly poured cold water on those rumours with a social media post about adopting a kitten for his daughter.
Brady's denial of the Fox deal rumours appears to confirm he remains committed to his highly anticipated move to the broadcast booth next year.
