Tenerife's chief executive has confirmed the Spanish second division club will financially support Jesus de Miguel's one-year-old daughter following his death earlier this week.
De Miguel passed away at the age of 30 after an on-field collision with Andorra FC goalkeeper Jesus Owono during a Spanish Segunda Division match. Monday's game was abandoned after De Miguel was taken to hospital, with the striker succumbing to his injuries on Tuesday morning.
Club's Commitment to the Family
In the aftermath of his passing, Antonio Manuel Porro Granados has confirmed to The Athletic that De Miguel's one-year-old daughter will be supported financially until she becomes an adult.
“Our plan is to stand by the girl and make sure the entire Tenerife family supports her,” he said. “We want to be there for her at least until she reaches adulthood.
“This is a commitment we have made at the initiative of our majority shareholder, Rayco Garcia, and one that we all fully support. It is a commitment that Tenerife, as a club, is making to the family and to their daughter, Carla.
“We will provide the maximum possible support in every respect, beyond what we are legally obliged to provide. We are also exploring other ways of increasing the financial support, so that, at least in material terms, the circumstances do not affect their lives quite so much — although, of course, it is impossible for them not to have an impact.”
Tributes and Funeral
De Miguel was laid to rest in his parents' hometown of Navahermosa, Spain on Thursday. Tributes have been paid to De Miguel all across the globe.
The striker's agent, Manuel Hernandez, issued a statement on behalf of De Miguel's family which read: “Thank you for loving him, for remembering him and for being with us.
“We cannot find enough words to thank you for every message, every phone call and every gesture of affection we are receiving.
“Feeling such affection for Jesus and seeing the mark he has left on so many people is something we will always carry with us.
“Jesus leaves a void that is impossible to fill, but also cherished memories for all of us who were fortunate enough to share our lives with him.”
