Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel has died after a collision during Monday evening's match against Andorra. The 30-year-old suffered head and chest injuries following a challenge with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono, who was sent off for the incident near the halfway line.
Owono had run from his goal to clear a long ball when his knee collided with De Miguel, who was motionless on the pitch after the impact. The referee immediately showed Owono a red card before the match was abandoned.
Medical Updates and Confirmation
An initial statement from Tenerife on Monday night said that De Miguel was 'stable' in hospital. However, a second update from the Spanish club in the early hours of Tuesday morning said that De Miguel's 'medical condition has worsened neurologically'.
Later on Tuesday morning, Tenerife announced that De Miguel had died.
