CD Tenerife footballer Jesus de Miguel has died at the age of 30 after a collision during a match against Andorra on Monday night. The club confirmed his passing in a statement on Tuesday morning.
Collision during closing stages
De Miguel was attempting to bring the ball down in the closing stages of the game when he collided with goalkeeper Jesus Owono, who was sent off for the challenge. The player lay motionless on the pitch for a few seconds before those around him realised the severity of the situation, with players demanding immediate medical attention.
Footage of the incident appeared to show Owono turning round to check on de Miguel, while others turned away, unable to watch the distressing situation unfolding.
Hospital treatment and club statement
Reports in Spain claimed the player had suffered a cardiac arrest before being resuscitated and rushed to the University Hospital of Nuestra Senora de Candelaria, where he was placed on an intensive care unit. Tenerife issued a positive statement on Monday, but later revealed his condition was worsening before confirming his death.
In a statement confirming his passing, Tenerife said: "Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic passing, this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., of Jesús de Miguel Alameda. There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this feeling overflowing with sadness. We stand alongside his devastated family, alongside his loved ones, alongside all of tinerfeñismo that today weeps for this cruel outcome."
The family of Jesús de Miguel thanked each and every one of the expressions of support received and requested the utmost respect for their privacy in these terrible moments.
Condolences from Andorra
Andorra, the opponents on the day, later issued a statement on social media, saying: "With broken hearts and devastation, we want to send our most sincere condolences to the family of Jesús de Miguel, to all his teammates, friends, and to CD Tenerife. Rest in peace."
De Miguel joined Tenerife at the start of last season and helped them secure promotion to the Spanish second tier with 11 goals in 29 games.
