Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Channing Tatum made a surprise visit to the Fat Boar pub in Wrexham on Friday night, with Reynolds buying a round for all patrons. The Wrexham AFC co-owner, who took over the club with Rob McElhenney in 2020, was in town for a match against Cambridge United.
Pub owner Rich Watkin told the Daily Star that they had only 20 minutes' notice before Reynolds arrived. 'It was probably best that way so we didn't have time to overthink things,' he said. The pub was busy with pre-Christmas crowds, and staff quickly arranged a secluded seating area for the actors.
Reynolds, 48, announced he would buy 'a round for everyone in here', a gesture Watkin called 'classy'. Footage of the Deadpool star making the offer circulated on social media. He also recorded a message for a pupil after meeting his teachers, joking about giving them top marks.
Alongside Tatum and It Ends With Us star Brandon Sklenar, Reynolds mingled with fans before the match. He told the crowd: 'After that I'm going to get the f*** out of here, I've got four kids,' but urged them to watch the game, saying 'up the town'.
Wrexham, managed by Phil Parkinson, are second in League One on goal difference behind Wycombe. The visit underscores Reynolds' hands-on involvement with the club, which has been documented in the Disney series Welcome to Wrexham.
