Dominik Szoboszlai scored a stunning late free-kick to give Liverpool a 1-0 victory over Arsenal in a pre-season friendly at Anfield. The Hungarian international curled the ball over the wall and into the top corner from 30 yards, leaving goalkeeper David Raya with no chance. The goal came with seven minutes of regulation time remaining and secured a morale-boosting win for the hosts.
The match was a tight affair, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances. Arsenal had the better of the first half, pressing aggressively and looking dangerous on the counter-attack through Noni Madueke. However, Liverpool grew into the game after the break, with the introduction of Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch adding creativity to midfield.
Liverpool had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the first half when Virgil van Dijk won a physical battle with Martin Zubimendi after a Raya error, but the captain opted to pass rather than shoot. Arsenal also had their chances, with Madueke forcing a save from Alisson after a corner.
The result means Liverpool maintain their 100% pre-season record, while Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the summer. Both teams will now turn their attention to the upcoming Premier League season, which begins in two weeks.
