Graham Potter has signed a new four-year contract to remain as Sweden's head coach until 2030, despite having lost both matches since taking charge. The former Chelsea boss returned to management in the international arena after a disappointing stint at West Ham.
Potter's reputation in Sweden remains strong due to his successful spell at Ostersund, where he guided the club from the fourth tier to the top flight and won the domestic cup in 2017. Swedish FA secretary general Niclas Carlnen expressed delight at the extension, highlighting Potter's leadership and long-term vision.
Sweden face Ukraine in a one-match play-off in two weeks, with the winner taking on Poland or Albania for a place at this summer's World Cup. Despite a poor qualifying campaign, they earned a playoff spot through their Nations League results.
Potter will oversee a formidable attack featuring Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyokeres, and Dejan Kulusevski when fit. Sweden missed the 2022 World Cup but reached the quarter-finals in 2018, losing to England. Potter said: "To be able to continue in this role means a lot to me... Sweden is a football country with a proud history."
