Chris Sutton's decision to support the Green Brigade's boycott of Celtic's home European and cup fixtures has caused an uproar among fans, with one caller suggesting the former Hoops hero may have alienated his old manager Martin O'Neill.
Speaking ahead of Thursday's Europa League clash with Celta Vigo, regular Hotline caller Stephen Mulhern from Dumbarton said Sutton's comments would not sit well with O'Neill, who led Celtic to the 2003 UEFA Cup final in Seville.
Fans split over Sutton's boycott stance
Mulhern said: "I was hugely disappointed with Chris Sutton's astonishing comments of backing the green brigade boycott for the home euro ties. This is coming from someone who himself witnessed what a passionate home support can do for Celtic when being part of our run to Seville (in 2003). I'm sure he's now ensured he's off Martin O'Neill's Christmas card list and and the vast majority of true Celtic supporters like myself with such a negative attitude."
Celtic returned to winning ways with a 7-1 thrashing of Hearts last weekend, but William Simpson remains concerned about the team's defence. He said: "With all congrats to Celtic on their easy win against Hearts, they could have won without a goalie. As i've been saying for the last few years, the problem is in defence. Hopefully they can go out and win against Celta Vigo but i wouldn't hold my breath. The defence are still like rabbits in headlights as soon as the opposition gets over the centre circle. I hope they prove me wrong."
Hogh's form questioned
Big-money signing Kasper Hogh has now failed to score in his last 10 Celtic appearances. Willie Mercer from Dumfries suggested the striker's struggles may stem from leaving a stronger team at Bodo/Glimt, who have consistently performed in the Champions League.
Hearts fan Robert Burns also responded to his side's heavy defeat at Parkhead, referencing a historical error by a Celtic goalkeeper while playing for Scotland, saying: "Almost 10 past Haffey."
Rangers fans hit back
On the other side of the Glasgow divide, Rangers supporter Alan Flett criticised Celtic fans for their complaints, pointing to Rangers' recent dominance in derbies and Celtic's poor European results.
Rangers were denied an eighth straight victory by Dundee last Saturday, and Martin Roberts has questioned Derek McInnes' substitutions. He said: "I have came round to McInnes and thought he had found a settled 11. So why change it at Dundee? Yes (Badredine) Bouanani was good but his subs were mad. To take him and Minsu Kim off was crazy as they were our best players. (Dan) Neil had a mare and (Djeidi) Gassama was a non event. They would have been my two choices to come off."
