Success Eduan could not contain her excitement after securing her place at a home European Athletics Championships, vowing that this is only the start of her journey. The 21-year-old lived up to her name as she stormed to victory in the women's 200m final at the Novuna UK Athletics Championships, denying world silver medallist Amy Hunt a national sprint double in the process.
Victory at Alexander Stadium
The midwifery student delivered the goods at Birmingham's Alexander Stadium, clocking a winning time of 22.43 seconds, with Hunt 0.21 seconds further back in second place. Eduan now has a European Championships to look forward to at the same venue after she bettered the qualification standard of 22.85 seconds.
“I’m 100% looking forward to testing myself against the best,” said Eduan, whose blistering leg helped Great Britain to gold in the women’s 4x100m relay at the World Relays last year. “I know my potential. I know I have so many more goals and dreams to achieve. This is just the first bit.”
Looking Ahead to Europeans
“I’m so excited for the Europeans, especially when it’s at this track. This is where I started my English Schools and everything, so I know there’s so much more to come. I’m just grateful and really looking forward to it,” Eduan added.
On her performance, which was also her personal best over 200m, Eduan said: “I didn’t know how fast I could go, but I am just thankful and grateful to God that I executed the race that I wanted to. It was only the fourth race of my season, so it is onwards and upwards from here. I always believe in myself, as do all my team and my coach. I have so much more to come. This is still not my full-time thing at the moment. I know I can work even harder and do more.”
