Tottenham Hotspur defender Destiny Udogie has been identified as the Premier League footballer allegedly threatened at gunpoint by an agent in north London. The incident occurred on the night of Saturday 6 September in Cockfosters Parade, Barnet, while Udogie was out with a friend.
Police were called at 11.14pm and later arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, as well as blackmail and driving without a licence. The suspect, who is not Udogie’s agent, has been bailed pending further inquiries. No injuries were reported.
The alleged blackmail and threats also involved Udogie's friend, according to the Metropolitan Police. The force confirmed that officers spoke to the victim and subsequently uncovered the additional allegations against the same individual.
Udogie, who was on international break at the time and not involved with Italy, continued playing for Spurs without missing any games. He came on as a substitute in the next league fixture against West Ham United on 13 September and started in Tuesday's Champions League match against Copenhagen.
A Tottenham spokesperson said: “We have been providing support for Destiny and his family since the incident and will continue to do so. Given this is a legal matter, we cannot comment any further.”
