Dan Evans' Australian Open campaign came to an end on Saturday as he was defeated 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 by world No 6 Andrey Rublev. During the match, Evans shared a banana with Rublev after the Russian found himself without his preferred energy snack.
Rublev acknowledged the gesture with a smile, saying, 'He helped me with some energy for sure. I won an extra two games because I ate a banana.' Evans explained, 'I quite like him, so I shared with him. They only brought two out, so I donated one.'
The British No 2 struggled to contain Rublev's power, despite a bright start. Evans now faces a lengthy journey to Bogota, Colombia, where Britain will play their Davis Cup qualifying round. The 32-year-old admitted the conditions will be challenging, having previously struggled at altitude in Guadalajara.
