Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has confirmed that Randal Kolo Muani and Wilson Odobert are unharmed after being involved in a car crash on their way to the airport ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League match against Eintracht Frankfurt. The incident occurred when a tyre blew out on Kolo Muani’s Ferrari on the motorway; Odobert, who was following in a separate vehicle, stopped to assist. Both players missed the team flight but travelled separately later on Tuesday evening and are expected to be available for the match.
Frank also provided updates on injuries to Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven. Porro will be sidelined for four weeks with a hamstring injury sustained during Saturday’s draw at Burnley, while Van de Ven has a minor issue, not a hamstring problem, and could return for Sunday’s league fixture against Manchester City. On a positive note, João Palhinha and Pape Sarr are available after recovering from injury and illness respectively.
Spurs, sitting 14th in the Premier League after a poor run of form, have found solace in the Champions League, where they are fifth and need only a win in Frankfurt to secure direct qualification for the last 16. Frankfurt, meanwhile, are struggling after sacking manager Dino Toppmöller two weeks ago; interim boss Dennis Schmitt has lost both his matches in charge.
Frank acknowledged the parallels with last season’s Europa League quarter-final against Frankfurt, when a 1-0 win eased pressure on then-manager Ange Postecoglou. “I’m very happy that the team and club are in a position where, with a win tomorrow, we can finish top eight,” Frank said. “It’s very few things that need to go our way, the small margins.”
