Son Heung-min has confirmed he will leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer, describing it as the 'most difficult decision' of his career. The South Korean forward made the announcement during a press conference in Seoul, where he is currently on the club's pre-season tour.
The 33-year-old joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, scoring 173 goals in 454 appearances. After a difficult Premier League campaign last season, in which he scored just seven goals and Spurs finished 17th, he lifted the Europa League in May, his first piece of club silverware.
Son said he felt he had achieved everything he could at Tottenham and needs a new environment. Los Angeles FC have shown interest in signing him but have yet to make a formal bid, while there is no interest from Saudi Arabia.
Manager Thomas Frank, who succeeded Ange Postecoglou, expressed disappointment at losing Son but acknowledged the timing was right. Son is expected to captain Spurs in Sunday's friendly against Newcastle in Seoul, which could be his final match for the club.
Son leaves as a club legend, having won the Premier League Golden Boot, the Puskás Award, and Tottenham's player of the year three times. He sits fifth on the club's all-time scoring list, behind Harry Kane, Jimmy Greaves, Bobby Smith, and Martin Chivers.
