Dominic Solanke admitted he should have scored a hat-trick after his stoppage-time equaliser earned Tottenham a 1-1 draw at Manchester United. The England striker netted a dramatic late leveller for the visitors, who had dominated much of the breezy October night at Old Trafford.
Late drama at Old Trafford
Bryan Mbeumo put Spurs behind with just over a quarter of an hour to play, but Solanke stole in late on to hold off Lisandro Martinez and guide a glancing header beyond Senne Lammens to snatch a point.
The No19 should have had at least two more goals to his name after spurning a couple of glorious opportunities. He fluffed his lines after being presented the ball from a Lammens mistake early in the game, before he could not convert a Savio cross on the stretch.
Striker's honest assessment
Speaking to Sky Sports afterwards, the striker rued his misses, despite his late heroics. "In the first half we dominated," he said. "We weren't clinical enough – a story of the season. We could have been a few goals ahead. We'll take a point."
"The character shown was magnificent. A few times we haven't reacted in the right way when going a goal down but today we showed fight and grit."
"I should have had a hat-trick. I wasn't clinical enough. I know that. But I kept going. I was getting in the right position to put one away."
Captain's pride and league position
"It's my first time being captain, for a great club. To score as well. It's something I'll remember for the rest of my career," he said. "It's something to build on. We haven't been good enough at this. Hopefully this is the start of something good."
Spurs lifted themselves off the foot of the Premier League table with a point, but they remain in the drop zone after another horrendous start to a league campaign.
