Snoop Dogg has been cautioned that his investment in Swansea City may not replicate the Hollywood fairytale of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney at Wrexham. The US rap legend, who acquired a minority stake in the Championship club last July, is set to attend his first home match against Preston North End later this month.
The 54-year-old has pledged to return Swansea to the Premier League and turn the club into a global name. However, comparisons with Wrexham's celebrity-driven rise—from the National League to the Championship via three consecutive promotions—have set a high bar that some believe will be harder to clear at the Swansea.com Stadium.
Former Premier League midfielder Jeff Hendrick, a 79-cap Republic of Ireland international, warned that Snoop Dogg may face a reality check. Speaking to Fruity King, Hendrick said: 'It's a wake-up call for those who might have thought they could just put their name to a club, attract players, and move up the leagues, like Wrexham. He's probably gone in at higher stakes and is getting to see what English football is all about.'
Hendrick acknowledged the positive publicity such investments bring, noting that they attract players and financial backing. He added: 'This is great for English football, as it brings media coverage and hype to certain clubs like Snoop Dogg has.'
Snoop Dogg is expected to arrive in Swansea on Tuesday, February 24, for the match. He will appear pitchside before kick-off and plans to engage with the community. Announcing his visit, he said: 'I cannot wait to finally make my first visit to Swansea City and be among all the YJBs for our game against Preston.'
