Arne Slot Asserts Liverpool Hierarchy Alignment Amid Season Struggles
Slot: Liverpool Fully Aligned Despite Difficult Season

Under-pressure Liverpool manager Arne Slot has publicly declared that everyone at the club remains fully aligned during a difficult season, while also insisting he feels genuinely backed by the hierarchy. The Reds have endured a bruising week, being knocked out of the FA Cup in a 4-0 loss at Manchester City and leaving themselves with a mountain to climb in the Champions League after a 2-0 first-leg defeat at Paris Saint-Germain.

Negative Noise Reaches Crescendo

This recent run of poor results has seen negative speculation around Slot's future reach a crescendo, but the head coach is adamant that he continues to feel strong support from above. In a detailed statement, Slot emphasized the unity within the club's leadership structure.

Club Leadership Sees the Same Issues

'I don't know what people are writing, but I think we all see the same,' Slot said. 'By that I mean the ownership, Richard Hughes, the sporting director, Michael Edwards, the head of football at owners Fenway Sports Group, everyone. Everyone sees what is happening in front of our eyes and we are all aligned in what we are seeing.'

Slot elaborated further, stating, 'We are definitely aligned in what we are seeing and on the reasons for it. I can come up with all the reasons why this season has been so difficult, that is why we are aligned. Everyone can see them so why should I always tell them as that becomes making excuses and it is not good to make excuses.'

The Dutch manager pointed out that the challenges are evident to all observers. 'They are so clear and obvious that everyone can see them. If you don't want to see them for reasons, no problem. But it is so obvious and so clear, it is not difficult to see all the problems we faced.'

Clear Reasons Behind Struggles

While Slot did not specify every issue, he could be referring to several factors that have hampered Liverpool's campaign this year. These likely include significant injury problems, an inability to convert scoring chances consistently, new signings taking time to gel properly, and various off-the-pitch distractions that have affected performance levels.

Throughout this challenging period, the club has maintained its backing for Slot, with the head coach actively participating in recruitment meetings for next season. The Dutchman is currently contracted until the summer of 2027, providing some stability despite the current difficulties.

Support from Fans and Hierarchy

Slot added, 'I am repeating myself a lot but I have said many times I feel a lot of support not only from the owners but from Richard and Michael as well, and as weird as it might sound I also feel the support of the fans.'

He highlighted a specific moment that demonstrated this fan backing. 'We were going out in Paris when the players went out for the warm-up and the fans after a 4-0 loss at City immediately started singing "We love you Liverpool". And after it's fair to say we were outplayed for over 90 minutes we went to the away end and they were still singing for us and clapping for us.'

Slot concluded on this point, 'That support, I have felt, we have felt constantly. I've said many times as well that the club knows which period of time we are in, and in the meantime I have their complete support.'

Transfer Model to Remain Consistent

Slot also took time to praise Andy Robertson, who will leave at the end of the season, describing him as both a great player and a great person. However, the manager insisted that Liverpool do not need to sign experienced players this summer simply because they are losing both the Scotland captain and Mohamed Salah.

'Our model is completely clear,' Slot stated firmly. 'That is not to say we cannot make an exception because the club signed Wataru Endo and maybe Federico Chiesa was a little bit above the age we usually sign.'

He defended the club's established approach to transfers and squad building. 'I don't think that if this club has been successful the way we are having, we are going to change our model completely after a season that has not been so great. Especially because in the 16 years they are here, they have not won the league 16 times.'

Slot emphasized the consistency of Liverpool's philosophy. 'There were more seasons where results were not as expected but they have always kept the same model which I signed for, which Richard signed for and which we are all aligned for.'

Team News Ahead of Fulham Clash

Looking ahead to immediate fixtures, Liverpool will be without first-choice goalkeeper Alisson for the visit of Fulham on Saturday. However, there is positive news regarding Alexander Isak, who is ready for more minutes. The club remains hopeful that their goalkeeper can return to action before the end of April, providing a boost for the final stretch of the season.
