Liverpool manager Arne Slot has declared he feels "a lot of support" from the club's hierarchy and supporters as his team approaches a pivotal eight-day stretch that could define their season. This period includes a Merseyside derby against Everton and the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie with Paris Saint-Germain.
Pressure Mounts After Recent Setbacks
Slot's position has come under renewed scrutiny following disappointing performances and results. A 4-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup was followed by a 2-0 loss to PSG in the first leg of their Champions League encounter, raising questions about the Dutchman's tactical approach.
Despite these setbacks, Slot remains optimistic about the backing he receives. "I'm repeating myself a lot but I feel a lot of support," explained the Liverpool boss. "Not only from the owners but from Richard [Hughes] and Michael [Edwards], a lot of support from them as well but as weird as it might sound I also feel the support from the fans."
Fan Support in Difficult Moments
Slot highlighted the unwavering loyalty of Liverpool supporters, even in challenging circumstances. "We were going out in Paris when the players went out for the warm-up and after the 4-0 loss [against Manchester City] the fans immediately started singing 'we love Liverpool'," he recalled.
"I think it's fair to say we were outplayed for 90 minutes and they were still singing and clapping for us. I've said many times, the club knows the period of time we're in and in the mean time I feel complete support," added the manager.
Crucial Fixtures Ahead
Liverpool currently sit fifth in the Premier League, just one point ahead of Chelsea in the battle for the final Champions League qualification spot. The Reds face Fulham at Anfield in Saturday's late kick-off, followed by the crucial second leg against PSG in midweek, and then the Merseyside derby against Everton on Sunday, April 19th.
Slot described this period as "defining moments" in Liverpool's season. "It's normal at the end of the season, not only for us but for all of the teams. These are defining moments," he explained.
Still Hope in Champions League
Despite the 2-0 deficit against PSG, Slot believes his team can still salvage their European campaign. "We've given ourselves not the best situation to be in but Paris kept us alive and we're still in that tie," he said.
"Two massive games in the league coming up, then four more after that and hopefully more in the Champions League. But first to focus is on Fulham," added the Dutchman, emphasizing the need to take each game as it comes.
Injury Updates and Squad News
On the injury front, Slot reported no new concerns for the upcoming fixtures. Goalkeeper Alisson continues to work hard to regain fitness and find his way back into the squad, while striker Alexander Isak is once again available for selection after making a brief appearance against PSG.
The coming week represents a critical juncture for Slot's Liverpool tenure, with European qualification and local bragging rights at stake in what could become a season-defining period for the club.
