Sir Chris Hoy Announces Return of Tour de 4 Charity Cycling Event in Glasgow

Sir Chris Hoy, the celebrated six-time Olympic champion, has expressed his profound excitement about returning to Glasgow for the second edition of his highly successful Tour de 4 charity cycling event. The announcement was made at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, where Hoy confirmed that the 2026 event will take place on Sunday, September 6, with registration opening in March.

Building on a Remarkable Inaugural Success

The inaugural Tour de 4 in 2025 was a monumental achievement, raising an impressive more than £3.1 million for cancer charities. This year, the event continues its partnership with GoFundMe and will support five major UK cancer organisations: Breast Cancer Now, Cure Leukaemia, Macmillan Cancer Support, Maggie's, and Prostate Cancer UK. All general donations will be equally distributed among these five vital charities.

Sir Chris Hoy, who was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in 2023 and later informed it was terminal, shared his heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support received last year. "To see my vision come to life last year was incredible," he stated. "Our aim was to raise £1 million for UK cancer charities, and we collectively more than trebled that! I'm very excited to return to Glasgow for Tour de 4 2026."

Event Format and Community Support

The 2026 Tour de 4 will follow a similar format to the previous year, with participants departing from the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and selecting from various route distances to suit different cycling abilities. This inclusive approach encourages widespread participation, fostering a strong sense of community engagement.

Last year's event garnered support from an array of high-profile sports personalities and broadcasters, including Sir Ben Ainslie, Rebecca Adlington, Duncan Scott, Sir Andy Murray, Sir Steve Redgrave, Sir Mark Cavendish, Louise Minchin, and Dan Walker. Their involvement significantly boosted the event's profile and fundraising efforts.

Leadership and Future Ambitions

Tim Cadogan, Chief Executive of GoFundMe, praised the initiative, highlighting its extraordinary impact. "With more than £3 million raised, thousands of participants, and a spike in awareness around stage 4 cancer, what Sir Chris and the team have achieved is frankly extraordinary," he remarked. "We are looking at how this shining example of community fundraising can be even bigger and better."

As the countdown to registration begins, Sir Chris Hoy looks forward to sharing further details about the 2026 event and the robust support already in place. The Tour de 4 stands as a powerful testament to community spirit and the ongoing fight against cancer, inspiring hope and action across the UK.
