Alan Shearer Warns Arsenal Over Title Race Pressure After Wolves Draw
Shearer's Worrying Claim on Arsenal Players After Man City Pressure

Alan Shearer Issues Stark Warning to Arsenal Amid Title Race Tensions

Alan Shearer has articulated a concerning perspective on why Arsenal's squad is likely to be disheartened by the public response to their recent 2-2 draw with Wolves. This result has allowed Manchester City to keep the pressure firmly on in the fiercely contested Premier League title race.

Arsenal's Stumble at Molineux

The Gunners were held to a draw at Molineux on Wednesday evening, failing to seize the opportunity to extend their lead over Manchester City. Currently, Mikel Arteta's team sits five points clear at the top of the Premier League standings, but they have played one more match than their rivals.

Manchester City's game in hand will see them face Crystal Palace in a rescheduled fixture, with the exact date yet to be confirmed. Additionally, Arsenal are slated to visit the Etihad Stadium later in the season, a match that could prove decisive.

Shearer's Analysis of Arsenal's Form

This draw marks the second consecutive Premier League match where Arsenal have dropped points, following a similar result against Brentford. Shearer highlighted why the Arsenal players will not appreciate the growing speculation about their ability to maintain their advantage over City.

"Cracks are starting to show now for Arsenal," Shearer stated in an interview with Betfair. "I think because of being 2-0 up and then being pegged back by the team bottom of the Premier League in Wolves, it doesn't look good."

He elaborated, "I pretty much expected this. I never thought they'd run away with it. Very rarely do teams do that, particularly with teams that haven't won it for a long time like Arsenal."

The Psychological Pressure on Arsenal

Shearer emphasized that Arsenal are likely uncomfortable with the narrative surrounding their potential collapse. "So, from that point of view, I get it and understand it, but that would be a concern. Whether they like it or not, Arsenal probably haven't liked people going on about them bottling it, them chucking it away, and the pressure being on them," he said.

He warned, "They probably haven't liked it. Well, they won't like what'll happen in the next few days now, because the noise will get a lot louder. There'll be a lot more of that now because of what happened on Wednesday, and you can imagine how loud it'll be if Tottenham beat them on Sunday as well."

Title Race Dynamics and Key Fixtures

Shearer noted that the Premier League title remains within Arsenal's control, as winning all their remaining games would secure the championship. "Technically, it's in both of their hands, and everyone was always going to look to that game at the Etihad in April. That was always going to be a key game anyway, and it obviously clearly is," he remarked.

He also pointed to a pivotal moment in the season, describing Manchester City's result at Anfield as a 'game-changer'. "I do think Man City's result at Anfield was a game-changer in terms of City going for the league, because if they hadn't have got that, it might have been very different. They wouldn't have put so much pressure on Arsenal," Shearer explained.

Predictions for the Remainder of the Season

Looking ahead, Shearer anticipates further twists and turns. "City play Newcastle, whose record at City is dreadful, as we know. So yeah, there are still going to be twists and turns in between now and the end of the season," he said.

He concluded, "I think there'll be a time where City will be top, and where Arsenal will be top, and I guess it's probably going to come down to that game in April." This insight underscores the intense scrutiny and high stakes facing Arsenal as they navigate the final stages of the Premier League campaign.
