Shearer Squirms as Logan Teases Over Guimaraes Goal
Shearer Squirms as Logan Teases Over Guimaraes Goal

Premier League icon Alan Shearer was forced into an awkward admission on air by Match of the Day presenter Gabby Logan. The pair were wrapping up Saturday's show when Logan mentioned the heroics of an ex-Newcastle United star Shearer might sooner forget.

Arsenal kept touch at the top of the Premier League after coming from behind to beat Leeds United. It was former Magpies captain Bruno Guimaraes who sealed their fate by finishing off a superb team move in the 70th minute.

Guimaraes' Impact at Arsenal

There are some at St James' Park who may still feel loyalty towards the old skipper, even though he's now at the Emirates. However, one can hardly begrudge others feeling some resentment towards the Brazilian following his £75million move to north London.

Saturday marked his second goal for Arsenal and came just seven minutes after he entered the fray against Leeds. As noted by Logan in her sign-off, it was also the second time in as many campaigns he's made a big contribution against the Whites.

The Brazil international was still wearing the armband at Newcastle when he scored and assisted in a nail-biting 4-3 win last term.

Shearer's Awkward Response

Logan turned to her panellists as she said: "For the second season in a row, Bruno Guimaraes scores a big goal against Leeds United. You must be thrilled for him, Alan?"

But while fellow pundit Danny Murphy chuckled over the playful dig, Shearer didn't seem to see the funny side. In fact, he gave barely any reaction at all as he said through gritted teeth: "Yeah."

The Newcastle great did crack a smile for the camera as the credits started to roll, indicating he did find the fun in Logan's remark. However, he played the part to perfection if he was aiming to come across as though still smarting over Guimaraes' exit at all.

Shearer's Previous Comments on Guimaraes

He was, after all, the first Newcastle captain to lift a domestic trophy in 70 years after clinching the Carabao Cup in 2025. Guimaraes had developed a deeply emotional connection with the Magpies faithful since arriving from Lyon in 2022.

Addressing Bruno's summer exit, Shearer told Betfair at the time: "Yeah, I'm disappointed because I've seen him produce magical moments. I've seen how brilliant he is, I've seen how he can make a difference to the team."

"I've seen him kiss the badge. I've seen him react to the crowd; I've seen him be made captain. And I've heard him say how much he loves it and he loves the football club. So, from that point of view, yeah, I'm really disappointed."
