Scotland squad announcement LIVE as Pocognoli names Nations League pool
Scotland squad LIVE: Pocognoli names Nations League pool

Scotland head coach Sebastien Pocognoli is set to name his squad at Hampden today for the final Nations League B1 fixtures, with the announcement being covered live.

The Belgian is preparing to round off the campaign with a double header in this month's international break. It will be a real contrast for the final two games, with Group B1 bottom dogs North Macedonia visiting Hampden before a trip to face leaders Switzerland.

Scotland's Nations League situation

Scotland ended the last international break on a real low after losing at home to Slovenia. Pocognoli's men can still catch Slovenia and secure second place in the group, but they would need to pick up four points to have any chance of doing that.

A victory against North Macedonia, who they beat in Skopje, should be straightforward enough, on paper at least. However, getting anything in St Gallen looks a tall order, with Switzerland boasting a 100 per cent record.

Scott Bain's case for a call-up

Falkirk coach Stephen McGinn praised goalkeeper Scott Bain after he shut out Celtic on Sunday afternoon. McGinn said: "We've thought for a while we had the best Scottish keeper. Today just proves it."

Going into the game, Bain had made more saves than any other goalkeeper in the Premiership, and aside from one costly mistake at Celtic Park in August, he has been a robustly reliable performer. Against Celtic, he saved all nine shots on target and kept a clean sheet, with Celtic registering an xG of 2.9, the third highest they have recorded this season.

Potential squad changes

Several pundits have suggested possible changes to the group. Keith Jackson noted that Scott McTominay and Che Adams are both fit and firing again and are certain to be recalled. Andy Newport said McTominay looks to have suffered no lasting effects from his recent heart scare, with four goals in his last six games, while Adams is back fit having started Torino's last four games.

Scott McDermott said he expects Adams and McTominay to come back into the squad after injury and illness, and would like to see David Bates given a chance off the back of his performances in Turkey for Amedspor. Michael Gannon suggested it might be worthwhile bringing Adams back now he has returned from injury, but said it will be more about giving more game time to some of the players who did not get much of a sniff in the last batch of games.
