Getafe have reportedly offered Jadon Sancho a contract worth around £10,000-per-week as the 26-year-old winger searches for his next club. Sancho has been a free agent since his Manchester United contract expired this summer, following a spell that fell well short of expectations at Old Trafford.
Sancho's fall from grace at Manchester United
United brought in the Camberwell-born player in a £73million deal in 2021, but he underwhelmed during his time in English football. Sancho managed just three goals and three assists in his first campaign, before recording six goals and three assists in 26 games throughout 2022/23.
He returned to Borussia Dortmund on loan the following season but was unable to recapture his earlier Bundesliga form. A further loan switch to Chelsea followed in 2024/25, with the west London outfit holding a £25m obligation to sign him permanently the next summer.
Following a disappointing stint in the capital, Chelsea chose not to proceed, instead paying a £5m penalty to return Sancho to Greater Manchester. Another season-long loan to Aston Villa followed last term, with the Villans showing no interest in securing the player at its conclusion.
Getafe table low-ball offer
Consequently, Sancho was let go by United this summer and has been without a club ever since. That situation could soon change, with several sides reportedly interested in handing the versatile attacker a deal.
Matching the eye-watering £250,000-per-week he is understood to have earned during his spell at Manchester United appears highly improbable. According to the Telegraph, Getafe have tabled a deal running until the end of the season, proposing to pay him just £10,000-per-week.
While Sancho has not completely dismissed a switch to the La Liga outfit, it is understood that he wants to hold talks with head coach Jose Bordalas before reaching a verdict on the proposal.
Getafe's current struggles
At present, Getafe occupy 15th place in the Spanish top division, having secured just two victories from their first nine fixtures of the season. Bordalas has also endured a challenging period with the club recently.
Brought in during 2023, 'Pepe' has openly criticised Getafe's leadership this term over insufficient squad resources. This comes despite him having previously expressed doubts about his first-team's capacity to perform at the elite level every three days, with both La Liga and Conference League commitments to juggle.
He told the media: "I feel deceived because what has been promised year after year hasn't been fulfilled. I'm angry. I've been warning about this since May, that it was going to be a very difficult season with matches every three days. It's been proven that we don't have the squad for it."
Club president Angel Torres has now fired back, making it clear the manager is free to walk away should he wish. Speaking to Cadena SER, Torres said: "He signed because he wanted to. Anyway, he's free to leave. If we're so bad, what can we do? This is Getafe."
"What I don't understand is what you're doing here if you're unhappy and I already knew it. To say that I deceived him...you have to be as shameless as stone to tell me, after 30 years, that I deceived him. But well, what he needs to do is respect the players, just as the players respect him."
