Saka injury 'doesn't look good at all' after early Bayern exit

Bukayo Saka is a major doubt for Arsenal's Premier League match against Everton this weekend after manager Mikel Arteta admitted the winger's injury "doesn't look good at all."

Saka was forced off inside ten minutes of Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich after going down holding his left leg. The winger had made a bright start, causing Alphonso Davies problems with dangerous bursts in the opening minutes.

After passing a ball out wide, Saka immediately signalled to the bench and was replaced. He limped off looking uncomfortable and pointed to his quad as he spoke to Arteta before heading down the tunnel.

Arteta confirms quad issue

Arteta confirmed the injury was a quad issue and said the club face a nervous wait to learn the severity. Eberechi Eze replaced Saka and scored Arsenal's opener in the draw.

"We lost Bukayo, who actually was having a great game," Arteta said. "They are a bit concerned. A player that has to come off with a really sharp pain is never good news but we have to wait and see."

Saka has started all seven of Arsenal's league matches this season and two of their three Champions League games.

Workload concerns raised

Asked whether the injury was related to the level of workload facing players, Arteta pointed to the ACL injury suffered by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on Tuesday night.

"Against Lille he didn't start the game, then he started the game at the weekend," Arteta said. "It was very early in the game. I don't know, the level of intensity that these games require is something incredible. You could see last game, PSG vs Barcelona, what happened.

"This is man to man, 96 minutes, every action there is no breathing. The quality, the attention, the level that you need is unbelievable. It's the highest level."

"Those things happen unfortunately. It doesn't look good at all but we have to see."
