Bukayo Saka was substituted with a quad injury just 10 minutes into Arsenal's 2-2 Champions League draw at Bayern Munich, and manager Mikel Arteta has admitted the club are concerned.
The 25-year-old winger appeared to hurt his quad while attempting a lofted pass, with replacement Eberchi Eze breaking the deadlock shortly after Saka's exit.
Arteta's Update on Saka's Injury
Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, Arteta said: "They (medical staff) are a bit concerned. A player that has to come off with a really sharp pain is never good news. But we have to wait and see."
He added in his press conference: "It does not look good at all. It's his quad."
Saka missed 10 games for club and country last season with hip and ankle problems, and had surgery on his hamstring in late 2024. Arsenal will hope he avoids another operation.
Gunners' Performance at Allianz Arena
Arteta was more upbeat about the team's display in Munich. Arsenal surrendered their early lead by conceding goals either side of half-time before Declan Rice equalised late on.
"That is one of the highest levels we played," Arteta said. "Two teams who wanted to press each other and wanted to attack and wanted to play. It was a fascinating game.
"We started the game incredibly well, we were so dominant. Then we had to adapt without Saka. In the second half the game was a bit even and they scored the goals and we had to react, which we did. We scored and we had the chance to win it too. That is the level."
Arsenal used a man-marking strategy, with Ezri Konsa often following Harry Kane into the middle third. Rice explained the team's approach: "It's what the manager has drilled into us; we aren't just going to come here and sit.
"At home, they are probably one of the best teams in Europe, so to come here tonight and give that account of ourselves was really good. We have to keep going."
Upcoming Fixtures
Arsenal resume their Premier League campaign on Saturday at home to Everton, before travelling to Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday. Their next Champions League fixture is away to Slavia Prague, which comes after a trip to face Liverpool at Anfield.
