Dundee United's Ross Graham Redeems Himself in Vital Celtic Victory
Ross Graham Bounces Back as Dundee United Beat Celtic

Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin praised skipper Ross Graham for epitomising his team's resilient performance against Celtic, as the defender bounced back emphatically from a calamitous end to last weekend's derby.

From Despair to Triumph

The Tangerines were cruelly denied victory at Dens Park when their captain conceded a needless foul deep into stoppage time, then scored the own goal that allowed Dundee to salvage an unlikely point. However, lifelong United fan Graham delivered an outstanding display as the team defeated Celtic at Tannadice for the second time this season.

Manager's Praise for Bounce-Back Ability

'Ross Graham was absolutely devastated last week,' revealed Goodwin. 'He doesn't need to be told what that game means to the supporters because he's one of them. He's been at this club since he was seven or eight years old. For him to bounce back just seven days later and deliver a performance like that deserves enormous credit.'

The manager continued: 'I'm genuinely pleased for all the players. We're not getting carried away - it's just another three points - but I've been very critical of them recently. Both the players and myself have received considerable criticism for how we've managed games. Today, they deserve a huge amount of credit.'

Top-Six Hopes Remain Alive

The 2-0 victory ensured Dundee United's aspirations of finishing in the Scottish Premiership's top six remain just about viable. Although Goodwin's side would need to defeat both Rangers and Livingston while hoping Falkirk lose their next two matches, the Irish manager believes the display against Celtic should provide belief that the improbable is possible.

A Miraculous Possibility

'There remains a real, albeit small, glimmer of hope,' Goodwin acknowledged. 'We understand we must win our two remaining games. We know Falkirk have to lose their next two fixtures. If we manage to achieve this, it would be nothing short of miraculous.'

'If we don't succeed, we'll undoubtedly look back on this season with significant regret. We've dropped so many points from leading positions and conceded numerous late goals that, had we managed those situations more effectively, we'd probably be comfortably positioned fifth or sixth in the table.'

Deserved Victory Against Title Chasers

Having been denied victory over Dundee, Goodwin felt there was no disputing that his team deserved to emerge victorious against Martin O'Neill's title-chasing Celtic side.

'Today we received exactly what we deserved in terms of the final result,' stated Goodwin. 'I believed we were the superior team throughout the match. You expect Celtic to dominate possession, but they never truly carved us open. They created one significant chance in the first half, and our goalkeeper produced an excellent save.'

Tactical Excellence and Individual Brilliance

'Beyond that opportunity, we maintained comfortable defensive shape. We attempted to be aggressive at the top end of the pitch from restarts. We forced Viljami Sinisalo to go long quite regularly, and my three centre-halves competed exceptionally well. In midfield, I thought both Emmanuel Agyei and Vicko Sevelj were absolutely excellent throughout the contest.'

The victory represents a significant turnaround for Dundee United, who have struggled with consistency this season. Graham's personal redemption story mirrors the team's broader need to overcome setbacks, with the captain's performance against Celtic demonstrating the resilience Goodwin has been demanding from his squad.
