Wayne Rooney has offered a glimpse into the real personalities of David and Victoria Beckham, revealing that the former Spice Girl is far funnier and more down-to-earth than her public image suggests. The former Manchester United and England striker shared the insights after recalling a dinner invitation to the Beckhams' home shortly after joining United in 2004.
Speaking on his podcast, The Wayne Rooney Show, Rooney described how he and his wife Coleen, then just 19, were invited along with Frank Lampard and other players. He recounted an awkward moment when he accidentally bumped into the Beckhams' eldest son, Brooklyn, causing him to cry. 'I opened a door and bumped his head,' Rooney said, calling the whole experience 'surreal'.
Despite the mishap, the evening was a pleasant surprise. When asked if the dinner was 'posh', Rooney revealed they ended up having kebabs, and he praised Victoria's personality. 'She's such a lovely woman and funny. A lot funnier than people would think,' he said, countering her 'Posh' nickname.
The comments come amid reports of a rift between the Beckhams and Brooklyn, who recently issued a statement suggesting his parents had tried to control his life and his relationship with wife Nicola Peltz. However, Rooney's account paints a contrasting picture of the couple as warm and unpretentious.
Victoria's humour was also on display in the recent Netflix docuseries 'Beckham', where she joked about the documentary being about her, not David. Rooney's recollections align with that lighter side, offering a fresh perspective on the family behind the headlines.
