Wayne Rooney Disagrees With Harry Kane Over Bayern Defence After PSG Thriller
Rooney Shoots Down Kane Over Bayern Defence Praise

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has publicly disagreed with Harry Kane's assessment of Bayern Munich's defending after their dramatic 5-4 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-final first leg.

The match at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night was a goal-fest, with PSG taking a 5-4 lead thanks to braces from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembele, plus a goal from Joao Neves. Bayern's goals came from Harry Kane (penalty), Michael Olise, Dayot Upamecano, and Luis Diaz.

Speaking after the game, Kane praised his team's defensive performance despite conceding five times. He told Amazon Prime Video: "You saw two high-level teams in attacking play and transition. Overall, we look at their goals, the penalty was harsh but we could have killed the game earlier on. We fought and we clawed and we're back in the tie. I thought there was amazing defending, even though there were nine goals. Sometimes the forwards will come out on top, but the back line was outstanding today."

However, Rooney, working as a pundit for the same broadcaster, was quick to counter Kane's comments. "I love Harry Kane but there is no way he can be praising his defenders in his post-match interview," Rooney said. "The defending from both teams was really bad from both teams, I think he is being modest there."

The second leg is scheduled for May 6 at the Allianz Arena, with a place in the final at stake. The winner will face either Arsenal or Atletico Madrid, who play their first leg on Wednesday at the Metropolitano Stadium.
