Robinson vows to fight for Aberdeen future after Hibs loss

Stephen Robinson has vowed to fight for his Aberdeen future after the Dons slumped to 11th in the Premiership table following a 4-0 home defeat to Hibernian.

Angry Aberdeen fans turned on their manager during the match at Pittodrie, chanting “You are getting sacked in the morning” and “Robinson, get to f***!” as the team fell to another heavy loss.

Robinson insists he can turn things around

Robinson insisted he has been in worse situations and believes he can turn things around at Pittodrie. He said: “Ultimately the blame will fall on me no matter what and deserve it. I’ll just keep fighting and working as hard as I possibly can.”

“I’ve got belief in my ability. You don't have 500 games if you don't. It's a difficult situation. Difficult at the moment for myself and the players and the club. I will keep fighting until somebody tells me otherwise.”

The Northern Irishman had heard nothing from chairman Dave Cormack or the board after the game about his future, stating: “Not at this moment, no.”

Manager accepts blame for unacceptable performance

Robinson accepted the defeat and display were miles off the required standard and took the blame. He said: “No hiding away from it. An unacceptable performance and an unacceptable result.”

“We have to be better than that. That's not acceptable. The result's not acceptable. I'm not trying to hide away from that.”

“We have to get players that want to fight and try and get us out of this situation.”

“I felt like the belief disappeared a bit as well when that particular sinking goal went in and they just fell apart a wee bit at the end. I agree.”

“Without winning football matches the belief is fragile.”

Fans turn on players as captain substituted

Captain Kevin Nisbet was ironically cheered as he was substituted, and there were chants of “You’re not fit to wear the shirt” aimed at all the players.

Robinson responded: “I’m not going to speak about individual players. I think that's unfair. I think the reaction at the end, we deserved a bit further performance. I’m not going to criticise any individuals.”

“The three home games haven't been good enough. That's what we're being judged on at the moment. We've got a fight in our hands. We need people to stand up and fight.”

“I hope so. It's up to them to prove that now. You've got to keep believing in them and you've got to keep fighting.”

Missed chances prove costly again

Aberdeen had a string of chances which they missed before Hibs showed them how it was done. “That's been the story,” the Aberdeen manager insisted. “We haven't taken our chances.”

“They, I think, five or six chances, took four of them. That's always the difference in football. That's just what's come home to roost again today.”

“I repeat myself, if you don't take chances, you don't win football matches. They did. We've got no excuses. We had opportunities to change the result and we didn't do it.”

“We haven't scored the chances we've created and we got the result we deserved.”

There were more injury woes as Connor Ronan limped off with a hamstring issue. Robinson added: “Yes, it's difficult to make up some of the injuries and the situations that we've experienced over the last three or four weeks.”

“People don't want to hear excuses. They want to see action and we weren't able to give them that tonight. We weren't able to give them the performance or the result tonight.”
