Aberdeen manager Stephen Robinson believes the dramatic penalty shootout victory at Kilmarnock can kick-start his side's season, and he credited goalkeeper Marius Muller for both the win and the dressing-room talk.
The Dons had taken just one point from their previous four Premiership matches, without scoring in any of them. Despite having Dan Happe sent off in the 58th minute and then conceding an equaliser from the resulting free kick, Robinson's side held on to take the game to extra time before winning the shootout.
Character and quality shown
Robinson said the travelling support of around 2,000 saluted the team at full-time, and he praised his players' response to the pressure.
"They showed what we see in training. They showed to a man their character and quality and that they can take that information," he said.
"You need catalysts during a season. It was always going to take time and hopefully we can kick on. I know I've got the players behind me, I know they believe what we're doing."
Muller's heroics and team talk
Muller saved three penalties in the shootout, from Tyreece John-Jules, Mark O'Hara and Aaron Tshibola, and Robinson revealed the keeper then took charge in the dressing room.
"He was excellent. He did my team talk. I didn't need to do one. We did it with 10, we looked full of energy and defended brilliantly," Robinson said. "You want characters and he made three great saves."
Ayoub Mouloua's panenka sealed the win, with Robinson joking: "He's very lucky he scored! He showed great composure. He's still adjusting to the language and culture so we're delighted. Anyone who takes a penalty I admire."
