Stephen Robinson admitted Aberdeen fans had every right to turn on his team after a goalless draw against Kilmarnock. A chorus of boos rang out as the Dons drew a blank and rock-bottom Kilmarnock picked up their first point of the season.
Robinson accepts criticism after jaded display
Robinson acknowledged the performance was lacklustre and his side looked tired and jaded after three games in seven days. Asked if he understood the fans' frustrations, he said: “100 per cent. It doesn’t matter when you have a tired and jaded performance you are going to get criticism.
“We accept that. We have to put it right. We have to get more energy and belief into the team for next week. When you are tired you play safe.
“The fans were 100 per cent right. I thought the fans got behind the team really, really well to try and get energy out of us. It wasn’t to be. We have no complaints and we have to accept that.”
Changes fail to spark improvement
Robinson made three changes at the interval but admitted they had little impact. Captain Kevin Nisbet went off again after taking a knock. Robinson said: “We looked tired after the two games in the week. That was, obviously, the fear.
“We freshened it up a little. The performance lacked energy and pace.
“We got a reaction at half-time with the changes but we lacked the finishing touch or quality we needed. So we got what we deserved.
“You have to try and win the game. I have to make these decisions because I didn’t think we got any more energy out of the team.
“We got more energy but did we get more quality. That is debatable.
“It is a frustrating afternoon. The two games caught up with us and we didn’t have within the group to grind it out. Sometimes you don’t deserve it. We didn’t desire it and a point was probably a fair result.”
Robinson vows to recharge for cup rematch
Robinson has vowed to keep his team recharged for next weekend's Premier Sports Cup rematch at Kilmarnock. He confirmed: “We won’t have three games in a week, that helps. We don’t play Rangers and Celtic in a short time, which helps. I am expecting a lot more energy next week.
“I think we need more from everybody. The players, the staff and myself are not running away from that. We need more.
“We had two very difficult tests in the Sunday and Tuesday games against Rangers and Celtic.
“We just didn’t have the energy the other night. We looked jaded. We tried to change things. We all need to step up because that isn’t good enough today. We go again.”
